Decks |
Description |
Decks is a hard wearing, transparent, waterbased finish for exterior use. It incorporates the latest technology in UV absorbers. WOOD-MAN’S Decks maintains slight flexibility to resist film cracking and peeling with the natural movement of timber. |
Uses |
Decks is suitable for decking, doors, windows, balustrades and outdoor furniture (contact surfaces). We recommend using WOOD-MAN’S Cladcoat for vertical surfaces, weather boards, cladding, pergolas, fascias and fences (non contact surfaces). |
Application |
Decks is best applied liberally using a paintbrush or a flat lambs wool applicator. Avoid using paint rollers unless you tip off with a paintbrush. Decks can be sprayed, however thinning should be kept to an absolute minimum (5% withpotable water). If painting is difficult due to rapid drying from excessive heat, it may be necessary to cease painting until a cooler time of the day or when the surface is shaded. The opposite may occur in colder conditions which can retard the drying time of the coating and is best avoided by coating in warmer periods of the day. |
Coverage |
Rough sawn timber 4 - 8 square metres per litre per coat. Dressed timber 10 – 12 square metres per litre per coat. |
Curing Time |
Under good drying conditions (av 25°C and max 60% RH) decking can be walked on after 4 hours with socks or stockings. Light foot traffic - 24hrs. Normal foot traffic - 3 days. High humidity or cold weather will retard curing time. |

UV Resistance |
The pigments used in WOOD-MAN’S Decks add a screening capacity against UV light. This means that high-energy radiation penetration deep into the film is reduced thus increasing the life of the coating by as much as 200 – 300%. |
| Colour |
WOOD-MAN’S Decks appears a red/brown colour in the can but dries to a Cedar-like stain. It can be tinted to a wide range of colours ranging from timber tones to transparent versions of traditional paint colours

Recommendations for NEW Unpainted timber
This is a general recomendation only.
Please contact us if you are unsure or if your circumstances differ. |
New Timber Decking or Horizontally Fixed Timber
Allow to weather for a period of 12 weeks. Timber should then be cleaned with WOOD-MAN’S Woodwash to remove any water soluble extractives that are present. These extractives are
detrimental to the life expectancy of the coating. Softwoods should be painted immediately
providing they are clean.
Clean the surface with WOOD-MAN’S Woodwash if required (see Woodwash technical bulletin).
Apply a saturation coat of WOOD-MAN’S Prime-All or Prime-All UV (See separate Technical Data Sheets). Allow min 4 hours drying time in good drying conditions (av 25°C and max 60% RH).
Apply a full and generous coat of WOOD-MAN’S Decks (see application details Page 1). Allow minimum 4 hours drying time in good drying conditions(av 25°C and max 60% RH).
Apply a second coat of WOOD-MAN’S Decks as above.

Tips |
Avoid working in direct hot sun and high winds. Always work along the full length of the timber surface not across the width. To avoid lap marks always finish each length of timber before moving onto the next. Apply WOOD-MAN’S Decks liberally and avoid spreading the film too thin. Use only acrylic wood fillers. Do not use steel wool because of its incompatibility with water borne paints, (causes rust spots). Do not paint if rain is imminent or predicted within 8 hours. It is recommended that any furniture, such as chairs and tables, should have either felt or sponge rubber attached to any points of contact with the deck surface. If WOOD-MAN’S Decks is being applied to any substrates before they are fixed, such as boards, they should not be stacked on top of each other . This avoids coating damage
